Welcome to the Month of the Dragon!

On April 9th, 2024 we’ll be entering the month of the Dragon.

The Dragon is not a single animal, but a fusion of all other the Zodiac animals—the Dragon being, symbolically, the single unified organism that all living things are but a part of. Our own existence is inseparably intertwined with all other animals, plants, and even minerals (our iPhones and computers wouldn’t be possible without rare earth metals and silica). From a large enough perspective, all forms of life are a single, dynamic organism, and the Dragon is the symbol of that unity

The Dragon month heralds a period of heightened connectivity and deepened awareness of our interconnectedness. This is mirrored in nature, where plants burst into bloom, attracting bees and insects for pollination, which in turn brings forth migrating birds, creating a dynamic, unified living ecosystem.

As the natural world buzzes with activity, we too find ourselves drawn to social connection and outdoor pursuits. This season invites us to reawaken connections, both with nature and each other. Just as plants nourish insects and birds through a web of reciprocal relationships, so too do we nourish one another through empathy and shared support. The Dragon reminds us of the power of collective healing, where burdens are shared and transformed within the embrace of community. This is a month to recognize our interconnectedness and embrace the transformative power of listening, receiving, and sharing with others.

“The Dragon reminds us of the power of collective healing, where burdens are shared and transformed within the embrace of community.”

This is also a time to diversify our diet. The dragon is associated with the Stomach & digestive system in East Asian medicine. Our gut microbiome is made up of trillions of microorganisms, creating a unified system made of a diverse collection of organisms. So the image of the Dragon as a symbol of “integration of diversity” applies within our own body as well as in the outside world. Strengthening our digestion with prebiotics and probiotics—a mix of fresh and fermented foods—can help us digest diversity in our lives. Go to your local farmers’ market to discover a seasonal food you’ve never tried before! Nettles, morel mushrooms, mustard greens and rhubarb are all ripe and delicious this time of year. Any way to enhance your sense of interconnectedness in the world and within yourself is auspicious and helpful this month.

In the coming seasons, I'll share more tips on how to align with the energies of each passing month. I look forward to sharing this information with you!
