Paul Arellano, DSOM, LAc (he/him)
I was born and raised here in Portland, Oregon, and tailor my care to the particular seasonal rhythms and health patterns that exist here in the Willamette Valley. Living in a damp, cool climate affects our bodies, as well as our mood and mental state, even if we aren’t experiencing a particular illness. Using classical acupuncture techniques and Chinese Herbs, I work to unravel complex patterns of chronic pain, digestive, circulatory and skin issues, as well as addressing mental-emotional concerns and histories of trauma.
Acupuncture is a medicine of aligning with the time and place we are in right here and now, allowing the body and mind be at ease. When we are taken out of the present moment by stress, trauma, anxiety, fear, pain or anything else, acupuncture can help us return. It is in the present moment that all healing happens, acupuncture is about returning our entire being to healthy alignment and balance.
Education
I received my Masters and Doctorate degrees in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbalism at NUNM, the National University of Natural Medicine here in Portland, Oregon. My Doctoral thesis examined the human and ecological health effects of changing climate through the lens of the classical Chinese climate health system of Wuyun Liuqi. I also study Chinese Astrology and offer Bazi Readings.
I am a student of several lineages of Classical Chinese Medicine. I have ongoing study in Ann Cecil-Sterman’s system of Advanced Acupuncture therapies, and have studied with the Worsley Institute of Five Element Acupuncture, completing a two year clinical program under the guidance of Worsley Institute President David Berkshire.
